Janet M. Brown, 79, of Slocum Township, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Celtic Hospice, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Slocum Township on October 7, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Marvin F. and Eva (Ungermach) Brown. She attended Newport Township High School. Janet was employed for many years as a seamstress in the garment factory, and most recently in the janitorial department at Crestwood High School, until she retired.
She was a member of Slocum Methodist Church, and often volunteered to help with fundraisers at the Slocum Township Fire Company. Janet enjoyed sewing, and working in her garden, especially with her flowers.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Jeffrey Brown and his companion Joanne Roberts; brothers, Ralph Brown and wife Doris, Earl Brown and wife Judy, all of Slocum; sister, Shirley Dismarais, San Antonio, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Elsworth Brown; sister, Nancy Houseknecht; and brothers-in-law, Tom Houseknecht and Joe Desmarais.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, with Reverend Mark Dodson officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening from 5:00 until the time of service.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
