Charles Thomas Filbert, 77, of Slocum Township, passed away on Saturday afternoon, December 5, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Danville on October 13, 1938, he was the son of the late Carl and Audrey Filbert. He was raised and educated in Huntington Mills. He was employed at American Cigar, Berwick and most recently, Heinz, Bloomsburg, prior to retiring.
Charlie was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, Slocum, and Knapp Lodge #462 F&AM, Berwick. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing, as well as metal detecting where he would find many “treasures”.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Margaret L. “Peggy” (Roth) Filbert, of 40 years. He is also survived by a daughter, Connie Morgan, TX; and many friends, including his caregivers, Lisa, Sherre and Dakota Briggs, John and Helen Williams, and Gloria Balliet.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Mt. Zion UCC, 438 Lily Lake Road, Wapwallopen, with his pastor, Rev. Bob Thomas, Rev. Fran Fink and Richie Briggs officiating . Interment will take place privately in Bloomingdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 113 Forrest Drive, Wapwallopen, PA 18660.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Engel and his staff, and those at Erwine Home Health and Hospice, who assisted in the care given to Charlie during his illness.
