George M. Matisak, 54, of Freeland passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 5, 2015, after being overexerted while hunting.
Born in Hazleton on April 17, 1961, he was the son of Gloria J. (Hutnyan) Matisak of Freeland, and the late George Albert Matisak. He was a graduate of Freeland High School and earned his CDL after completing the course at USA Truck Driving, Newark, DE. “Yudo” was a driver for Pitt Ohio trucking company for 16 years. After retiring, he worked at the Freeland Borough, Evancho Bus Company in Freeland, Beech Mountain, Drums and DCNR – Hickory Run State Park.
George was a member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Freeland. He enjoyed socializing and was a member of many clubs including the VFW, Freeland, Highland Club, Drifton Shack, Jeddo Stars and “12:20 Club”. “Yudo” liked hunting and fishing, as well as throwing darts. He also enjoyed playing cards with friend and visiting the casinos.
In addition to his mother, he will be greatly missed by his loving sister, Rosey Gerlach and husband Adam, Upper Lehigh; brother, Paul Matisak and wife Cindy, Jeansville; nephews, Adam IV and Ryan Gerlach; nieces, Nicole and Megan Matisak; an aunt, an uncle and several cousins. He also leaves behind many friends, including Nancy Hayes and Howard Cogan.
In addition to his father who passed away in 2010, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanie Matisak in 2001.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 898 Centre Street, Freeland, with Reverend Michael Kloton officiating. Family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
