Daniel “Ray” Cosper, Jr., Jr., 99, of Almedia was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital.
Born in Elmira, NY on November 16, 1916, he was the son of the late Daniel Raymond and Marguerite C. (Converse) Cosper. He was a graduate of Bloomsburg High School and was a loyal employee at the Morning Press which became the Press Enterprise, for over 30 years until his retirement. He and his wife were the co-owners of Sneidman’s mom and pop store in Almedia, until it closed in 1975.
Ray was a very active member of Ridge Street United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg where he held the office of financial secretary, attended Sunday School, and Bible Study, and was involved with other committees. He was a life member of the Elks Post 436, Bloomsburg and Espy Fire Company, as well as a member of the Columbia County Historical Society. He enjoyed music, and played the bass, banjo and guitar with big bands in the area. His family and faith were extremely important to him.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Sue Wolfe and her husband Mark of Bloomsburg; grandchildren, Kim Schmidtgall and husband Tom, Kelly Walker and husband Joshua, Jeff Cosper and wife Pam, and Jim Cosper; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Shelby, Megan, Hailey, Lindsay, Ashlynn, and Jayden; as well as his brother, Don Cosper, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Marie (Sneidman) Cosper in 1998; son, Gary Lee Cosper in 2007; and granddaughter, Megan Powlus in 1977.
funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, with his pastor, Rev. Robert Eddinger officiating. Interment will follow in Creveling Cemetery, Bloomsburg. Friends may call on Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, may be made in his name to Ridge Street United Methodist Church, 145 Ridge Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
