Wilbur L. Bloss, 93, of Hobbie, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Smith Health Care, Mountaintop, where he had been a guest for the past 4 months.
Born on December 22, 1922, he was the only child of the late Lyman D. and Alice F. (Hoch) Bloss. He attended school at the Good School, one room school house. Wilbur owned and operated his truck and dairy farm on St. Mary’s road for over 50 years.
He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hobbie, where he formerly served on church council. He enjoyed fixing farm machinery, welding projects, and general tinkering. He recently commented that he wished he would have had the time to fix up and paint one of his old tractors. He had many good times going to farm sales, and socializing with fellow farmers. In his younger years, he served as fire policeman for Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, June E. Berkheiser, Succasunna, NJ; son, Barry W. Bloss and wife Diane, Hobbie; grandchildren, Kelley A. Berkheiser and fiancé Frank Corso, Bronxville, NY; Jeff Bloss, Hobbie; Justin Bloss and wife Katie, Shickshinny; and great grandson, Aiden Bloss. He is also survived by one cousin, Irene Hoch, Nescopeck.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily R. (Rinehimer) Bloss in 2009, and son-in-law, Harry Berkheiser in 2007.
At Wilbur’s request, there will be no public funeral service. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. He will be buried next to his wife in St. James Cemetery, Hobbie.
Wilbur’s family would like to thank the staff of Smith Health Care for the compassion and care he was given during his stay there.
