Ruth Beverly (Setzer) Force

Ruth Beverly (Setzer) Force, 90, of Berwick passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at her home, following a short illness.

Born in Berwick on March 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Beatrice E. (Fish) Setzer. She attended Berwick schools, and was employed at Consolidated Cigar for 27 years, or as she would say “from open till close”.

She attended God’s Missionary Church, Berwick. She liked crocheting and made many items over years, as requested, from holiday decorations to household items. She enjoyed fishing and camping with friends, in Virginia, Louisiana and other areas. She spent many hours cooking, and always had food to offer anyone who visited. Most of all, Ruth loved her family and friends, and cherished the time she spent with them.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Bonnie Walk and Linda Herring, both of Berwick; stepson, Howard Force, Jr., Hazleton; stepdaughter, Linda Force, Bloomsburg; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Henry Setzer, Berwick, Frank Setzer and wife Nancy, all of Berwick; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Force, Sr. in 1982; son Harry Herring, Jr.; infant daughter, Judy Herring; stepdaughter, Charlotte Samsel; sisters, Marian Hummel, Janet Layos, and Betty Yorks; brothers, Donald Richards, Wesley Setzer, and Harry Setzer; and companion, Charlie Karns.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, March 7, 2016, at Heller Funeral Home, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
