Leonard G. “Hon” Spaide, 78, of Berwick, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Berwick Hospital Center, where he was a patient since Sunday.
Born in Berwick on March 20, 1937, he was the son of the late Emma (Smith) and Abram Spaide, Sr. He attended Nescopeck High School and was a plasterer by trade. He was employed at various local manufacturing plants, and most recently worked at Boyer’s IGA, Berwick.
He attended St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, Berwick. He raised pigeons, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid Eagles and Flyers fan.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Nancy M. (Karns) Spaide; sons, Leonard Spaide Jr, Louisiana, Danny Spaide, Louisiana, Audie Spaide, Berwick, Scott Spaide and companion, Michelle Smith, Bloomsburg, Brian Spaide and wife Chrissy, Shickshinny; daughter, Tammy Winterhalt and husband Mark, Allentown; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters, Olive Ruckle, Berwick, Noreen Graver, Lancaster; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur, Howard, Abram Jr, Fred, infant brother Clarence; and sister, Beldene Pendelton.
It was Leonard’s request to be cremated. A memorial prayer service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third St., Nescopeck, with Reverend Francis Tamborro officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends from 9:30 AM till the time of service.
