Richard A. Benscoter

Richard A. Benscoter, 76, of Nescopeck, PA passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Geisinger Medical Center with the daughter and step-daughter by his side. He was born August 28, 1939, son of the late John and Pearl Benscoter. He resided his entire life in his family home in Nescopeck and felt fortunate to be surrounded by kind and caring neighbors who always looked out for him.

Richard graduated from Nescopeck High school where he was a stand-out basketball player. He served in the National Guard. He retired from Wise Potato Chip Company and worked previously at Berwick Forge and Fabricating, and the Consolidated Cigar Company. Richard was a huge sports fan. He enjoyed watching his favorite teams on TV and attending the games of his friends’ children and grandchildren. In addition, Richard loved going to carnivals, the Bloomsburg Fair, and Knoebels Grove with his daughter, family, and friends. He could often be seen sitting on his porch, just enjoying the day.

Richard was loved by all because he was kind, gentle, and caring man. He was always thinking of others, even until the very end of his life as he continued to show concern for the well-being of his daughter, family, and his friends during his own struggle for life.

Richard will be greatly missed by a daughter, Andrea Benscoter and her partner Tamera Ellsworth, Naples, FL, 3 step-children, and nephew, John Benscoter. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Donald and Robert; and sister, Janice Benscoter.

Richard Benscoter was a great son, brother, uncle, step-father, and friend; but most of all Richard was an incredible, loving father. His unconditional love for his daughter was immeasurable and he filled her life with joy. Richard will be missed more than words can convey.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC., 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
