Cletus R. Bower

Cletus R. Bower, 82, of Hobbie passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past 2 weeks.

Born in Summer Hill on November 9, 1934, he was a son of the late Carl M. and Mary J. (Brader) Bower. He attended Berwick Schools and served honorably in the US Army from 1957 to 1958. He worked in home building and construction for Clyde Yohey in Bloomsburg, later for Harold Benjamin in Conyngham where he was employed for 23 years, and retired from Richard Angelo, Inc in Hazleton. He took great care in the work he did helping to build many homes from the ground to the roof.

Cletus was a member of St. James Lutheran Evangelical Church, Hobbie, where he served as a past treasurer and council member. He was also a member of the Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed hunting, going to flea markets and watching TV. He was always happy to have visitors come, especially his children and grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Arlene J. (Moyer) Bower; son, Barry L. Bower and wife Michelle, Bloomsburg; daughter, Gail Mowery and husband Joe A. II, Nescopeck; cherished grandchildren, Kayla R. Hendricks, Lauren A. Hendricks, Jessica M. Mowery, Sarah N. Bower; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Donald Zimmerman, Monroe and Eleanor Moyer, Nellie Moyer, Willard Moyer, Fred and Lynn Moyer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Marie Zimmerman; and brother, Charles Bower.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck with his pastor, Reverend Oliver Brown officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Hobbie. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory, may be made to St. James Lutheran Evangelical Church General Fund, 827 East County Road, Wapwallopen, PA 18660.
