Luther H. Fenstemaker, 87, of Berwick passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Berwick Retirement Center where he was a guest for the last 2 weeks.
Born in Berwick on August 5, 1929, he was a son of the late Henry L and Freda L (Knorr) Fenstemaker. He was educated in Berwick, and was employed at Vaughn’s Bakery. Later, he worked in the construction industry, retiring from Sitler Construction.
Luther enjoyed woodworking. He built many toys for children and other items that he gave away as gifts to anyone who wanted one. He was a very kind-hearted person. He was an avid John Wayne fan and liked collecting memorabilia.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Rachel R. (Powlus) Fenstemaker in 2009; son-in-law, Frank Altland; sister, Janet Kaycon.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Linda Altland, Berwick; sons, James Fenstemaker and wife Jane, Berwick; Rick Fenstemaker and husband Robert Dewey, Florida; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Lucille Wagner, Bloomsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
A Service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, Nescopeck. Internment will follow at Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 1:00PM until the time of service.
