Florence “Hat” Marie (Pursel) Markle, age 89, a resident of Nescopeck, PA, for over 70 years, died February 8, 2017, at The Gardens at Orangeville.
Born in Bloomsburg on June 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mildred (Wolfe) Pursel of Almedia, PA. She attended Scott Township School in Espy and retired from Lady Ester/ Kadette, where she was a seamstress for 25 years.
She was married October 19, 1946, to her loving husband, the late Clarence R. Markle, Jr. for almost 60 years.
She was the mother of four children: daughter, Nancy Lane of Nescopeck; son, Clarence “Mick” R. Markle III and wife Debe of Nescopeck; daughter, Joanne Lange and husband Robert “Angel” of Vincennes, IN; and son, Lester A. Markle and wife Mary of Nescopeck. She has 9 grandchildren: Lora Krasniak, Bryan Lane, Aaron Markle, Jesse Markle, Robb Lange, Joshua Markle, Pearl Marie Markle, Lester Adam Markle, and Chelsey Markle. She has 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She had 5 brothers and 2 sisters: the late Floyd “Cub” Pursel (1973) of Texas, Delbert Pursel of Ohio, Elmer “Mike” Pursel of Columbia, South America, Mildred ‘Dolly” Pursel of Virginia, Myrtle Stackhouse of Berwick, the late Gary Pursel (2016) of Bloomsburg, and Jerry Pursel of Berwick.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Nescopeck and worked at the polling booths until she was no longer able. She loved going to Tuckahoe Acres, Delaware, camping. She enjoyed long walks and working on her word-search books. She was a member and attended the Albright United Methodist Church of Nescopeck until it relocated.
Florence will truly be missed by her family. She was a role model and was always there when she was needed. We were very blessed to have her in our lives.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on February 14, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck, with Pastor Timothy G. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Nescopeck. Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
