Edna Carrie Burger, 95, of Nescopeck went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Gardens at Orangeville, surrounded by her family.
Born in Putneyville, PA on January 8, 1922, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Shadle) Raber. She worked at Berwick Laundry, then after marriage, she joined her husband in the family business, Burger’s Sawmill in Briggsville. After retiring from the mill, she enjoyed watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She volunteered at the Nescopeck Volunteer Fire Company hoagie sales, and at her church, St Mark’s Lutheran Church, Nescopeck, making Easter Eggs, and homemade bread and cinnamon buns for the Church Bizarre.
Her favorite pass-times were hunting with her husband, gardening, canning, baking, crocheting, sequined calendars, cross stitch and embroidery, Christmas beaded kits and felt applique kits. She also liked watching squirrels and her favorite soap opera, Days of Our Lives. Her greatest enjoyment was being a part of her grandchildren’s lives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Woodrow W. Burger; brothers: Sterling, Stanley, Harry, William Glenmore, Clifford, Charles, Glen Roy and Oscar; sisters, Creola, Ida, Thelma, Merian Mearl, Fern and 2 siblings in infancy.
She is survived by four children: Mary Jane Burger; Eilene K. Lamoreaux and husband Sanford; Woodrow L. Burger and wife Terri; and Marlin W. Burger, Sr; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Irene and Marcella.
A service to honor her life and faith will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck with Reverend Jessica Kingsborough officiating. Interment will follow in Schloyersville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Funeral Home.
