Helen Lois Ochs

Helen Lois (Cooper) Ochs, age 93, ended her journey here on earth on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Sybertsville, PA on November 23, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Laurence Davis and Myra Mae (Croman) Cooper. Helen resided in Nescopeck Township after marrying her first husband, Cletus Franklin Keene in 1943, with whom she shared five children.

She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and swinging on her porch swing.  She spent many hours crocheting and sewing doll clothes for her grandchildren. You would always find her in her recliner crocheting afghans throughout the winter months.

She was preceded in death by husbands Cletus F. Keene who passed away in 1961 and Donald Ochs who passed away in 1992. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by her five daughters: Bonnie J. and her husband Dennis Superko of Nescopeck; Claudia A. Kline of Nescopeck; Beverly F. Ochs of Drums; Diane K. and her husband Donato Dalo Jr of Nescopeck; and Suellen K. and her husband Roy Harner of Mt. Holly Springs. She was also blessed with 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Church of Christ and active member of the Ladies Aide Society. She spent many nights making filling balls for the suppers they served. She participated in community suppers in the one room school house near the church, to raise money to add a basement to the church.

Helen worked as a nurses’ aide at the Berwick Hospital Center for 17 years, retiring to spend time with her husband, Donald, traveling with him as he drove his Peterbilt tractor trailer delivering loads up and down the coast.

A viewing will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Mt. Zion UCC, Church Road, Nescopeck from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. A Funeral Service will follow with the Rev. Richard Dennison officiating. Interment will take place in Schloyersville Cemetery, Nescopeck.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mt. Zion UCC, 832 3rd St, Nescopeck, PA 18635.
