Beatrice R. Harmon, 91, of Nescopeck passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Berwick Retirement Village II, where she was a resident for the past 10 years.
Born in Espy on May 5, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur J. and Sallie (DeWald) Martz. She graduated from Scott Township High School, Espy, in 1944, where she played on the basketball team and played the tenor saxophone in the high school band. Beatrice liked completing the tasks of a homemaker, and was dedicated to being a full-time wife and mother. After her children were grown, she worked for several local manufacturing plants including the Berwick Knitting Mill.
“Bea” or “Beaty” as some called her, was a member of Faith United Lutheran Church, Nescopeck. She enjoyed gardening and square dancing.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, Willard L. Harmon, Jr and wife Carole, New Cumberland; Danny Harmon and wife Nancy, Shickshinny; daughter-in-law, Carol Harmon, Berwick; grandchildren, Willard Harmon III; Danielle Harmon; Rachell L. Green; David A. Harmon, Jr; Clifton Harmon; Stacia Romeo; Erica Streander and Krystal Miner; great grandchildren, Ethan; Carter; Avy; Rebecca; Allison; Liam; Liberty; Hunter; Ali; Lexi; Jorden; Adalynne; and Jonathan. She also leaves behind sisters, Barbara Hughes, Sunbury; Dawn McHenry, Shickshinny; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard L. Harmon, Sr in 2002; son, David A. Harmon, Sr in 2016; sisters, Emma Madden and Ethel Slayter; brother, Charles Martz; and friend, Layton Baer.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck with her pastor, Reverend Jessica Kingsborough officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
