Sylvia M. Garbacik, 83, of Hetlerville passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care, where she had been a patient for the past 5 years.
Born in Drums on February 28, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Julia I. (Maylath) and Thomas A. Garbacik, Sr. She attended school in Sybertsville. In her younger years, Sylvia was a waitress at Hippensteel’s Restaurant, Nescopeck and later a housekeeper for Dr. Matsko, Berwick. Most recently she worked Wes Poultry Farm, Hetlerville.
Sylvia was a member of Immaculate Conception B.V.M., St. Mary’s Church, Berwick. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and ceramics.
She will be greatly missed by her brothers, Jerome Garbacik and Phillip Garbacik, both of Berwick; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Jr.; James; William; Lawrence; and Gabriel Garbacik; and sisters, Beatrice Garbacik and Annaseda Bell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in St Mary’s Church, 1730 Fowler Avenue, Berwick with her pastor, Reverend Francis Tamburro officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. A viewing will be held on Tuesday morning in the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
