Ellen C. Hoch, 92, of Pond Hill passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was born in Dorrance Township on October 22, 1924 to the late Herbert C. and Mable E. (Stein) Hoffman. She was raised and educated in Dorrance Township. Ellen worked in the Country Cousins shoe factory, Mocanaqua, and later at Wilkes Pools.
Ellen was a member Mount Zion United Church of Christ, Slocum, where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Friendship club and Quilt club. She enjoyed gardening and fishing. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Janet Mathis and husband Bob, Texas; sons, Russel Hoch, Bloomsburg; Ronald Hoch and wife Ann Marie, Berwick. She is also survived by a sister, Esther Seltzer, Dorrance; brothers, Allen Dennis; Raymond Dennis; brothers-in-law, Edward Hoch, State College; Stewart Hoch, Mountain Top; grandchildren, Mark, Debbie, Christina, Jason, Matthew, and Connie; 6 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe P. Hoch on September 4, 2000; a daughter, Delores Burdette; grandsons, Phillip and Jonathan; brothers: Clark Hoffman, Carl Hoffman, Leroy Hoffman, Burton Hoffman and Floyd Hoffman; and sister, Ethel Rinehimer.
Family will receive friends on Thursday August 10, 2017 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Mount Zion UCC Church, Lily Lake Road, Slocum. Interment will follow in Emmanual Cemetery in Dorrance. Anyone attending the service is welcome to join the procession from the funeral home at 9:00 AM.
