Ralph “Darrell” Austin, 84, of Pond Hill passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017, at Guardian Health Care and Rehab, Nanticoke, where he was a guest for the past month.
Born in Hunlock Creek on July 16, 1933, he was a son of the late Hobart S. and Susan G. (Dodson) Austin. He was a graduate of Lake Lehman High School, and served in the US Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he was self-employed in the highway construction industry until he retired.
Darrell was a member of Emmanuel UCC, Dorrance, and attended Berwick Christian Church. He was a talented singer and enjoyed music. He was a mechanic and enjoyed the rewards of a job well done.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of nearly 60 years, Cynthia J. (Ogan) Austin; daughter, Shari Rodino and husband Thomas, Nescopeck Twp.; granddaughter, Molly Rodino; daughter-in-law, Patricia Austin, NY and her son, Danny Congden; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Austin in 2016; sister, Betty Jayne Hall; and brother, Hobart Austin, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck with Reverend Richard Dennison officiating. Interment will follow in Slocum Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
