Mervin L. “Peanut” Kreischer, 74, of South Centre Township passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in the Bloomsburg Area on June 29, 1943, he was the son of the late Mervin Beaver and Eleanor Kreischer. He attended Central Columbia High School in Bloomsburg and served honorably on active duty in the US Army from December 1960 to December 1963. He then continued his career in the National Guard, earning the rank of Sergeant, until retiring in 1996. He worked as a painter and carpenter for many years, and was also employed as a security guard for 10 years.
“Peanut” was a member of Bloomsburg Baptist Church. He was also a member of the VFW in Bloomsburg, Catawissa and Berwick, the American Legion in Iola, and a social member of the Bloomsburg Elks and Moose in younger days. He was musically talented and played with several bands, including “John Henry and the Outlaws”, and “Marie and the Valley Ramblers”. He enjoyed playing the keyboard, guitar and bass. He also liked a good game of chess or cards.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 25 years, Marie A. (Boguslaw) Kreischer; children: Mike Kreischer, Bloomsburg; Kevin Kreischer, Bloomsburg; Loretta Edinger, Lancaster; Brian Cunnius, Hamburg; Jessica, Reading; step-children, Carmen Coladonato, Bloomsburg; Diane Rhodes, Catawissa; Darlene Sabo, Sunburry; 15 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Sandy Margita, Missouri; Mary Lutz, Ohio; and Katherine Wellborn, Missouri; Brothers Charles Richmond, Ohio; Glenn Richmond, Ohio; Mike Richmond, Ohio; Donald Richmond, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Mayfield; and brothers, Elgie and Johnny Richmond.
A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Bloomsburg Baptist Church, with Pastor Craig D. Laidacker officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
