Larry E. Cleaver

Larry E. Cleaver, 79, of Nescopeck passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, December 24, 2017.

Born in Nescopeck on September 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles and Carrie (Mensinger) Cleaver. He graduated from Nescopeck High School and enlisted in the US Navy. After an honorable discharge, Larry worked at Wise Potato Chips in Berwick. In the early 70’s he opened Cleaver’s Exxon Station in Mifflinville, and operated it for over 30 years. He also co-owned a trucking and leasing company with his son, Larry Cleaver, II.

As a child and in his younger years, Larry was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Nescopeck. Later, he became a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg. He was a member of the VFW Post 821, Berwick; a member of the Elks Lodge 1138 in Berwick, and a former member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Canada and New York, both with his friends, and family.

He leaves behind his daughter, Meredith Cleaver, Venice, FL; son, Larry E. Cleaver II, Zephyr Hills, FL; brother, Bob Cleaver, Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marsha (Bush) Cleaver in 1991; sister, Beatrice Bankes; and companion and best friend, Joanne Davenport who passed away on December 9th.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. A private graveside service will take place in Mifflinville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
