Ralph L. Smith, 65, of Nescopeck passed away suddenly on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Berwick Hospital Center.
Born on January 4, 1952 in Bloomsburg he was a son of the late Charles and Hannah Bell (Terwilliger) Smith. He was part of the first graduating class of Columbia Montour Vo-Tech school in 1970. He served honorably in the Army National Guard from 1970 until 1976. Ralph worked for Asplundh as a young man. He later became a welder and worked for Strick and Dana Corporation in Reading for 25 years. After they closed, he obtained his CDL and became an over the road truck driver, until his retirement.
He was an avid golfer, and a member of the Berwick Golf Club, where he competed in several tournaments and won awards. Ralph loved hunting and fishing. When not golfing, he spent weekends with family and friends at Faith’s Pheasant Preserve in rural Nescopeck. He was also a social member of the VFW Post 8227, Nescopeck. He enjoyed racing go-carts and was part of Richie Jensen’s pit crew at Evergreen and Selinsgrove Raceways.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Michele Twiddy and husband Robert, Orangeville; grandchildren: Amanda, Abigail, and Natalie Twiddy; sister, Carol Smith, Tucson, AZ; several cousins many close friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Berwick Golf Club, Berwick.
