Joseph P. Bomboy, 89, of Bloomsburg passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018, at Signature Health Care, Bloomsburg, where he was a patient for the past 2 months.
Born on December 25, 1928, he was the only child of the late Franklyn and Pauline (Bowman) Bomboy. He graduated from Bloomsburg High School and the National Radio Institute, Washington DC. He served in the US Army in the 923rd Ordinance (HAM) Company during the Korean War, and in 1952, during his service time, witnessed two atmospheric nuclear test bomb explosions in the Nevada desert. After discharge from active duty he served 4 years in the ready reserve. Joe was employed at US Radium Corp. as a photographer for 20 years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 273, Bloomsburg, and was an Amateur Radio Operator for 60 years.
He will be greatly missed by his children: Molly Shollenberger and husband Donald, Bloomsburg; Jeffrey Bomboy and wife Renee, Wyoming; Christina Gaudreau and husband Rick, Mt Wolf; Andrew Bomboy and wife Lori, Elizabethtown; 7 grandchildren: Mark; Elizabeth; Abby; Ryan; David; Katherine; and Colin; and 2 great grandsons: Luke and Jeffrey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Timothy; and many Aunts and Uncles.
A graveside service with military honors will be held in Old Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg, at a later time.
