Thomas E. Dawson, Sr, 84, of Hobbie, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Berwick Hospital Center.
Born at home in Hobbie, he was a son of the late Ardena M. (Weiss) and Lawrence Dawson, Sr. He attended the one room schoolhouse in Hobbie. Big Tom owned and operated his own truck for several years, then worked as heavy machine operator for Barletta’s, and most recently as a driver for Miles Precut Homes in Mountaintop until his retirement.
He enjoyed tinkering around on his farm and liked to collect vehicles. Thomas had a kind heart and would lend a helping hand to anyone he could. For many years, he was the fire police chief for Hobbie Fire Hall and involved with the fire police at Briggsville.
He will be greatly missed by his children: Thomas Dawson, Jr. and wife Twila, Wapwallopen; Terry Dawson, Sr. and wife Deanna, Berwick; Timmy Dawson and wife Gloria, Massachusetts; Todd Dawson and wife Julie, Coatsville; Tyler Dawson, Wapwallopen; Laurie Fyock and companion Mike Scott, Hazleton; 16 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers, Ray Dawson; Bob Dawson and wife Diane; Bill Dawson; Dave Dawson and wife Barb; sister, Carol Dawson, all from Hobbie; sister in laws, Dixie Dawson, Hobbie; Leila Dawson, Berwick; Janet Dawson, Limerick; son in law, Tim Fyock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lenida A. (Yohey) Dawson; great granddaughter, Abigail Dawson; brothers, Lawrence “Art” Jr., Doyle “Pee Wee”, Richard, and Glenwood Dawson; sister, Ila Mae Dawson.
Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Ridge Road, Nescopeck. Anyone attending can go directly to the cemetery.
