Christopher Scott Kishbaugh known to many as Big Dawg, age 52, of Berwick passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient for the past month.
Born in Berwick on December 24, 1969, he was the son of Shirley D. (Johns) Kishbaugh of Nescopeck and the late Sterling R. Kishbaugh. He was a 1989 graduate of Columbia Montour Vo-Tech where he studied auto repair. He received many awards, his senior year he received the athlete of the year award for football, wrestling, and baseball which he participated in his entire high school career. He was also a wrestling coach and was proud to be able to give back to a great school that gave so much to him. He was currently employed at Smucker’s in Bloomsburg for the last 31 years.
Chris was a very active member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick. He was a youth leader, a pioneer club leader, and served as head of trustees for many years. He was the custodian for Bethany Blessings Preschool for 23 years. He was a past volunteer fire fighter for Ranger Hose Co, Station 110, Berwick for many years and a lifetime member.
He enjoyed sports of all kinds, both watching and participating. He was proud to have been a member of his brother Mike’s pit crew when he raced micro sprints. He played volleyball and was active with the church and city softball leagues. Through softball he made lifetime friends that became family to him. If you ever met him, he would talk to you and know your life story within minutes. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He never hesitated to pick on people, and he often said,” life is to short not to laugh.”
He was a blood donor since he was 18. Since 2000 he has registered 11.25 gallons donated, and he was a Power Red Blood Donor since 2011. He was very proud that most of his donations went to help newborns.
Above all, he was devoted to his family and enjoyed any time he was able to spend with them. He especially enjoyed trips with his wife and his whole family. He enjoyed getting roped into all his wife’s projects. They always worked better as a team. He also prided himself on his cooking abilities for family functions.
In 1988, he married his high school sweetheart, Angelica L (Leffler) Kishbaugh. During their 33 years of marriage, they raised 2 children and witnessed the beginning of a new generation through their 2 grandchildren. They enjoyed their time together greatly.
In addition to his mother, Shirley and wife, Angelica, he will be greatly missed by his daughter, Sarah C. Brown and companion Justin Schenkel, Berwick; son, Zachary Kishbaugh and wife Elizabeth, Mocanaqua; grandchildren, Paige and Paityn; sister, Sandra Tripp, Nescopeck; brothers, Wayne Kishbaugh and wife Cynthia, Berwick; David Kishbaugh, Nescopeck; Michael Kishbaugh and wife Lani, Shamokinh; In-Laws Arthur Leffler and wife Deborah, Brother In-law the late Arthur Leffler III and companion Ronda Killian, Brother In-law Joseph Leffler and wife Lisa, many nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on January 8th at Bethany United Methodist Church, Berwick with his pastor, Stephen Portner officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service. Masks are REQUIRED to attend.
