Alverna M. (Moyer) Rospendowski 

Alverna M. (Moyer) Rospendowski, age 95, of Hobbie entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Hobbie on June 1, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Parvin A. and Hazel E. (Garrison) Moyer. She graduated from Nescopeck High School. She grew up working on her family farm and then at Moyer’s Grove early in her marriage. Later she was employed at Consolidated Cigar in Berwick, until it closed, and prior to retiring she worked at K-Mart in Berwick.

Alverna was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Hobbie, where she was the church historian for over 50 years. She was also a member of Ladies Aid, serving hospitality needs to church members in their time of need. Alverna was a genealogy enthusiast and a great source of information for others seeking information about their family tree. She was active in the craft show circuit with items made by herself and her husband. After retiring she also became actively involved in Meals on Wheels in the area.

In addition to her parents and stepmother, Hazel A. (Readler) Moyer; she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frank Rospendowski on June 10, 2011; sisters, Hilda C. Hoffman and Guida Hoffman; stepbrothers, Bryce Readler; and Clifford Readler; and stepsister, Aladine Rinehimer.

She will be greatly missed by her sons, Michael F. Rospendowski and wife Gail, Hobbie; Bruce P. Rospendowski and wife Robyn, Hunlock Creek; grandchildren, Christopher Rospendowski, Hazleton; Lt Col. Aaron Rospendowski, US Army, Europe; Lt Jessica Rospendowski, US Navy, United States; Melanie Gardner, Indiana; Brandon Rospendowski, Bear Creek; step-grandchildren, Monica Holderman, NC; John Henchenski lll, Berwick; Bryan Henchenski, Vero Beach, FL; Kristin Henchenski, Webster, NY; Katherine Henchenski, Wyoming, PA; Brooke Kubricki, Hobbie; Courtney Madl, Berwick; 27 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother, Leon Moyer and wife Janet, Hobbie; many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at St. Peter’s UCC, Hobbie. Interment will follow in Silver Maple Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday in church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
