Horace H. Laubach

Horace H. Laubach, age 94, of Berwick passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born on June 25, 1928, he was a son of the late Daniel M. and Marea T. (Hess) Laubach. He attended Berwick High School and served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War as a corporal. He patrolled the Russian border while serving in Frankfort and Freidberg Germany as part of the Tank Co 8th Infantry Regiment. Horace worked for Confair Beverage Co. for 12 years and in 1968 he became employed at Maier’s Bakery until 1986. After semi-retiring he worked for both Roadway Trucking and Consolidated Freight, fully retiring in 1998. He also volunteered with the Luzerne County Sheriff’s department as a Sargent in the Special Services Division.

In December of 1953, Horace married the love of his life, Sandra (Rowley) Laubach. Together they lived in Berwick and raised 2 children. They made many memories over 68 years and began a legacy for their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Horace was a devout Christian who attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Bloomsburg and was a board member and greeter with his wife at Berwick Assembly of God for many years. He was a member of the Bakers & Confectioners (BCTGM) International Union and the Teamsters. Horace was a car enthusiast, he enjoyed going to antique car shows, and showing a 1964 Buick Wildcat, which won many trophies and ribbons in competitions. He enjoyed yard work and daily lunch with the guys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Gayle M. Siro in 2010; a sister, June Hough and husband Wayne; brothers, Glen E. Laubach and wife Lois; Robbie Laubach and wife Ann; and Eugene “Pete” Laubach and wife Marcyl.

Besides his wife, Sandra, he will be greatly missed by his son, Dr. Steven C. Laubach, his wife Christine, and their children, Andrew S. Laubach and Alexander C. Laubach of Tallahassee, FL; son-in-law, Tom Siro, Orwigsburg, PA, and his children, Michael A. Siro and wife Sara of Pottsville, PA; Christina Spinelle and husband Nick of Carlisle, PA. He also leaves behind 2 great grandchildren, Jackson and James Siro of Pottsville; a niece, Polly Eckrote and nephew, Randy Laubach.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck, with Pastor John Kolenda officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick. Family will receive friends from 9:30 until the time of service.
