Barry M. Newman Sr, age 78, of Berwick passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at his home.
Born in Berwick on March 24, 1944, he was a son of the late Henry G and Florence B (Smith) Newman. He attended Berwick High School and in April of 1961, he enlisted in the US Army. He served until October of 1962, and after an honorable discharge, was employed at the Berwick Forge. He later worked at Berwick Welding and retired from Techni-serve.
On August 17, 1963, he married his beautiful wife, Sherye L. (Knouse) Newman. Together they raised 4 sons and created many memories before her passing in 2015.
He was a member of Good Shephard Lutheran Church, Berwick. Barry enjoyed visiting with his family. He was an “all around Mr. Fix-it” and liked working on projects around his house or helping others with theirs. He also loved taking care of his cats.
He will be greatly missed by his sons, Barry Newman Jr, Berwick; James Newman and wife Lori, Berwick; Marc Newman and wife Marcella, Berwick; and Stevon Newman, Nescopeck; grandchildren: Justin; Dylan; Braedon; Austin; Sawyer; Genevieve; Lucianna; and great grandchildren: Ryder; Asher; Mira; and Braedon. He also leaves behind a brother, Henry Newman and wife Barbara, Sunnyvale, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald Newman and wife Janice; and Gaylord Newman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
