Eileen J. Briggs, 82, of Berwick, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at home.
Born in Johnstown on December 14, 1940, she was the last living child born to the late Walter A. and Ethel (Johnston) Durst. She was raised and educated in Ruffsdale, PA. She was employed at Consolidated Cigar and Wise Potato Chips, Berwick. She retired from Dana Perfumes, Mtn Top.
Eileen attended Good Shepard Lutheran Church, Berwick. She enjoyed making fudge and was known as the Candy Lady. Eileen liked collecting snowmen, angels, and carousels. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, and watching General Hospital and classic roller derby in her free time. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a mom to many.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Theresa Wark and husband Brian, Berwick; Phyllis Triantis and husband Gregory, Buckhorn; Regina Jaeger and husband Kendall, MD; Richell Rinehimer and husband Kevin, Dorrance; sons, Richard Briggs Jr. and wife Lisa, Slocum; Robert Briggs and wife Laura, Wapwallopen; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and was looking forward to the birth of another great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard J. Briggs Sr.; granddaughter, Shelby Steward; sisters, Alta P. Wooley; Mary Ellen Haines; Violet Mileni; Dolores Resh; Ethel Fetty; brothers, Watson Durst; Soloman Durst; and James Durst.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E. Third St, Nescopeck.
A funeral service will be held and on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 1600 Fowler Ave, Berwick. Family will receive friends from 10:00 until the service.
