Nelson Herbert Samsel Jr., loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, February 26th, 2023.
Nelson was born on February 1st, 1944, in Berwick, to the late Nelson Samsel Sr. and Marguerite (Mettler) Samsel. He attended Berwick Area Schools and was a lifelong resident of Berwick. Nelson held several odd jobs in his younger years at National Select Fabrics, DANA Corporation, Strick Corporation, and Heinz Pet Products (Smuckers), where he retired from in 2018.
Nelson was well liked and had many lifelong friends. He enjoyed music, dancing, shooting pool, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Nelson was a member of the AUCC, Berwick VFW Post 821, and The Salvonic American Club.
Nelson will be greatly missed by his six daughters: LaVonne and husband Aaron Patterson, Benton; Krista Samsel, Miami FL, Jaime and husband Jude Goddard, Berwick; Tammy Garrison, Oregon; Tina and husband Dante Diagostino, Wapwallopen; Tracy Cartwright, Berwick; grandchildren: Stephen, Harrison and Nathan Kuchka; Alexandria Conway; Tanisha Samsel; Tatiana Old; Jude, Jayla and Janessa Goddard; Tiffany and Brooke Bankes; Kevin and Jacob Diagostino; Mary and Ashley Ragone; Marissa and Tyler Cartwright; and many great grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers, Dennis and wife Louise; Gary Heimbach, Berwick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Samsel; and sisters, Sharon Hill and Evelyn Lynn.
As requested by Nelson there will be no services. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
