James L. Fisher, age 86, of Black Creek Township passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.
Born in Nuremberg on February 15, 1937, he was a son of the late Robert and Erdie (Gearhart) Fisher. He graduated from Nuremberg High School. James entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1956 where he was stationed in New River, NC and served until 1959. After an honorable discharge, he worked at Continental White Cap, now known as Silgan, in Hazleton until his retirement.
James was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Nuremberg and volunteered at Black Creek Food Pantry. He loved spending time with his grandsons and enjoyed rooting for the University of Scranton baseball team where his grandson, Corey plays and Bloomsburg University ice hockey team where his grandson, Matthew played. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. James liked taking care of his pet “Rusty”, as well as the many strays he tended to outside and he also enjoyed gardening.
He will be greatly missed by his son, Karl B. Fisher and wife Janet, Tamaqua; daughter, Selene Zientek and husband Robert, Sugarloaf; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Logan Zientek; and Corey James Zientek. He also leaves behind his girlfriend of 6 years, Dottie Kotansky; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife Caroline I. (Hopeck) Fisher, in 2001; brothers, Karl, Jay, Jean, Adrian, and Edward Fisher; sisters, Rowena Elbert; and Allison Pruett.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hillside SPCA, Pottsville, ARC, Bloomsburg, or Black Creek Food Pantry.
