Virginia “Ginger” L. Pinera

Virginia “Ginger” L. (Shoemaker) Pinera, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2023. Her daughter and grandson with whom she was residing were by her side.

Born in Bloomsburg on December 31, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Paul Wesley Shoemaker, Sr and Elizabeth M. (Young) Sorber. She graduated from Bloomsburg High School and served as a medic in the US Army from 1966 to 1967. After being discharged from active duty, she remained a member of the National Guard for many years. Ginger was very proud to have served her country. She worked at Textron in Danville for many years.

Ginger was an avid Yankees fan.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Terri L. Switzer and husband David, Wapwallopen; grandchildren who were the light of her life, Jacob Switzer and wife Laurel, Stroudsburg; Andrew Switzer and wife Julie Beach Haven; Nicholas Switzer and partner Gabby, Berwick; Zander Switzer and partner Emily, at home; great grandchildren, Marco Gabriel and mother Caitlin Miller, Wapwallopen; Arlieh Jade and Parker Anthony, Beach Haven. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Marco Alan Pinera; grandson, Kyle Greer; step-fathers, Samiel DaWalt and William Sorber; sister, Joanne Morrison and brother, Paul W. “Sonny” Shoemaker, Jr; brother-in-law, Harold “Abey” Morrison.

At Ginger’s request, there will be no services. Heller Funeral Home, LLC, Nescopeck is assisting her family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Commonwealth Hospice of Berwick and their nurses who gave wonderful care.
