Carl Alfred Alber

Carl Alfred Alber “Big Carl”, 89, of Dorrance Twp, passed away peacefully Saturday October 21, 2023, at the VA Medical Center with his loving wife of 50 years, by his side.

Born November 2, 1933 in Laurel Run. He was the son of the late Carl and Beatrice (Watkins) Alber. He graduated from Wilkes-Barre high school in 1951. Educational background includes courses at Kings College, LCC, Lehigh County Community College, and he graduated from Northeastern Municipal Police Academy.

Previously employed by Sordoni Construction Company, Eberhard Faber Corporation, Luzerne County Juvenile Court and served the Public for 21 years, with the Wright Twp Police Department, retiring as Chief of Police in 1992.

Carl was a true (Red, White and Blue) Patriot, proudly served 5 ½ years in the Army during the Korean War, a tour of duty in Germany, and an Honorable Discharge with rank of Sgt. He was a 62 year life member of the American Legion and twice Commander of Post #288. He was also a member of the Masons/Fidelity Lodge #474, Caldwell Consistory, Irem Temple Provost Guard, FOP Lodge #36, Northeast PA Chief of Police Association, Local #140 American Federation of Musicians, and a Life Member of the N.R.A.

Carl loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling and he was a Green Bay Packers fan, but above all, he loved to sing.

Carl was a faithful Christian, a member of Mount Zion UCC of Slocum, he sang in the choir, participated in many services, loved God and his church family.

Carl had a Johnny Cash voice and style with his signature song “Ring of Fire”. He was the 2010 Northeast Pennsylvania Karaoke Champion at Mohegan Sun/Pocono Downs. The “Singing Sheriff”, known to his country music fans as “Big Carl” with Sundance, entertained at clubs, parks, and events on the East Coast. He won Seagrams 7 battles of the bands (twice) and competed on a national basis at the Tennessee Polk Theater for the Performing Arts. He recorded several of his original songs in Nashville. To his credit, he was honored to sing our national anthem at local venues.

Surviving is his loving wife Peg, former Margaret J. Bieski; son, Carl M. Alber and wife Norene; daughters, Deborah J Molitoris and husband John; and Karen M Alber; grandchildren, Eric F. Alber and wife Amanda; John Molitoris and wife Rachel; great grandchildren, Vincent and Gino Alber; sister, Jeannine M. Welebob and husband Louis; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his Church Family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday November 14, 2023 at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 438 Lily Lake Road, Wapwallopen, PA 18660. Reverend Fran Fink is officiating with Pastor Diane Webster assisting.
