Virginia R. Barnes, age 85, of Berwick passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville with her loving family by her side.
Born in Salem Township on June 3, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Jessie (Cope) Seely. She was a graduate of Berwick High School, class of 1957. Over the years, Virginia worked as a seamstress at several local factories including Lady Ester and Milco.
Virginia liked to keep busy at home, gardening, knitting, baking, and decorating her house for the seasons. She enjoyed going to auctions and visiting the Animal Resource Center flea market. She loved animals, especially her cats, including “Harry” who seemed to have a special attachment to her.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 66 years, Franklin I. Barnes; sons, Scott Barnes and wife Denise, Berwick; Lawrence Barnes, Bloomsburg; granddaughter, Racheal M. Diehl; sisters, Jeanette Heller; Cora Hummel; and Jessie Hosler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George Seely; Ernest Seely; Frank Seely; Maurice Seely; Clark Seely; sisters, Gladys Peters, Elizabeth Davis; Irene Engle.
At her request all services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Heller Funeral Home LLC, Nescopeck is entrusted with assisting her family.
