John W. Cope

John “Jack” Cope, age 73, of Bloomsburg passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

Born in Catawissa on September 22, 1951, he was the son of the late Ralph W. and Iva M. (Bittenbender) Cope. He was a graduate of Central Columbia, class of 1969. As a young adult, he worked at Hartzel Chevrolet, Bloomsburg. He served in the US Air Force for 20 years, where he served during the Vietnam War in the Philippines. After an honorable discharge, John was a parts manager for Independence Chevy, later he was a service manager for Independence Toyota. He also worked the outages at the Power Plant and retired from Berwick Offray.

John was a member of the Lime Ridge Fire Department for many years and was a former South Centre Township Supervisor. He was a member of New Hope Church, Lime Ridge. He enjoyed golfing at Rolling Pines with friends and was very proud of making 7 hole-in-ones. He liked deer hunting with his cousin. John loved spending time with his grandchildren and would always cheer them on at their sporting events. 

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol A. (Whitenight) Cope; daughter, Rebecca Jackson and husband Brandon, New Market, MD; grandchildren, Kyle and Lexi; sisters, Mary Catherine Cain and husband Paul, Pennsylvania; Karen Hopkins and husband Ralph, Maine; Judy Lee, Florida; brothers, Ralph “Eddie” Cope, Pennsylvania; Randy Cope and wife Cathy, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Larry Cope and Leon Cope; sisters, Claris Swank; Sue Ann Knorr; Patricia Hillard; and sister-in-law Sherryl Cope.

Family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck, immediately followed by a funeral service.
