Janet R. Moyer

Janet R. Moyer, age 88, passed away on March 6, 2025, at PAM Health Specialty Hospital of Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Hazleton on September 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John Bachman and R. Grace (Frey) Smith. She was a graduate of Hazleton Area High School, class of 1954, where she played the trumpet in the school band. After getting married in 1956, she devoted her time to taking care of her husband and children. She was an avid swimmer and worked as a lifeguard and water safety instructor at Moyers Grove for many years. She taught most of the kids from the Hobbie area how to swim. She briefly worked at Weis Potato Chip factory as a packer.

Janet attended St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Hobbie, where she was a member of the choir. When her children were younger, she was a cub scout leader for their troop. She enjoyed cooking and baking for anyone who came to the house. Her favorite things to make were macaroni and cheese and chocolate cake with sprinkles.  She loved singing her “old-time” songs to her family and entertaining her grandchildren. She always got great enjoyment at putting a smile on someone’s face and was known for her tenacity.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Leon T. Moyer; her son, Alan Moyer; and brother, Edward Bachman.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sharon Moyer and husband John Ricci, Wapwallopen; Valerie Shultz, Honeybrook, PA; son, Wayne Moyer, New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Lindsey Gatto and husband Joseph; Shelby Rodriguez; Haley Shultz; and Nathan Shultz; and great grandchildren, Christopher, Bradley, Dylan, Devin, ZiLayna, and Miloh.
