Carol L. Coakley

Carol L. Coakley, age 78, of Nescopeck passed away on Sunday March 30, 2025, after losing her battle with pancreatic cancer since July of 2024.

Born in Berwick on November 12, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Vernon P. and Mabel E. (Hummel) Long. She was a graduate of Berwick Area High School, class of 1964. She furthered her education by earning her bachelor’s degree in teaching at Bloomsburg State College, class of 1968. She was a Biology Teacher at Northwest Area High School. After marriage, she devoted her time to raising her children and later was employed at Berwick Industries until retiring.

Carol was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, Berwick, where she was a member of the church council, Bible school teacher, a praise team member and helped with several other programs. She dedicated time to helping with Easter Seals. She loved sewing, quilting and photography. She enjoyed spending her time doing pebble art and being outdoors hunting and fishing. Carol was a friend to everyone; she never met a stranger.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 52 years, Joseph J. Coakley; daughters, Lynne McDonough, Nescopeck; and Megan Rusanowsky and husband Mark, Berwick; son, Samuel Engle, VA; grandchildren, Leah McDonough, NC; Lauren Knott and husband Timothy, NC; Jayden Engle, VA; and Skyler Engle, Iceland. She also leaves behind sisters, Patricia Nalin and husband Dennis, Evansville, IN; Susan Ogden and husband Max, Berwick; brother, Eric Long, Orangeville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday April 5, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1315 Fairview Ave, Berwick, with Pastor Chad Hebrink officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
