Nancy J. Houck

Nancy J. Houck, age 84, of Benton passed away on Monday May 26, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born in Berwick on April 12, 1941, she was the daughter of the late David R. and Anna M. (Young) Bogard. She was a graduate of Nescopeck High School, class of 1959. Early in her career, she was employed at John Hancock Insurance Company and State Farm. Later she worked for Hampshaw Lumber, and before retiring she was a care giver for Mentally Challenged Adults. Nancy took several courses in interior design and was involved with the building and remodeling of over 10 homes.

Growing up, Nancy was a member of the former St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Nescopeck. Later, she was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Berwick, where she sang in the choir. In her younger years, she volunteered for the Salvation Army, Rotary, Channel 44 and many other nonprofit organizations.

For nearly 20 years, she lived in New Hampshire and during her time there, she was a member of the Professional Business Women, where she was the President for 5 years. She was also a member of Cheshire County Republican Woman. She was a member of Keene’s Pop chorus group in New Hampshire and travelled to Europe with them.

She was a current member of Mt Zion UCC, Nescopeck Twp, where she was a member of the altar guild and ladies’ aide. She loved music and singing in the choir. Nancy enjoyed bird watching with her husband, cooking and baking. She liked gardening, especially pollinator gardens, and was an avid reader. Nancy was always doing things that made herself and others laugh. She had a great sense of humor and a very infectious laugh that everyone enjoyed.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Robert C. Houck with whom she celebrated 28 years of marriage this past March; daughter, Laurie (Naugle) Clark and companion Ty Wallace, Cape Cod, MA; son, Geoffrey Naugle, Berwick; grandchildren, Hillary Shoff, Stephanie Pirruccio, and Melanie Hubbard; great grandchildren, Liam and Issabella Shoff; Regan and Benjamin Pirruccio; Henry and Jacob Hubbard. She also leaves behind a brother, David Bogard and wife Deborah, Berwick; a sister, Carol Borick and husband Peter, Berwick; many nieces and nephews; and extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Gulluni.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday May 31, 2025, at Mt Zion United Church of Christ, Church Road, Nescopeck Township with Pastor Bill Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Heifer Organization, Habitat for Humanity or Mt Zion United Church of Christ.
