Janice A. Thomas

Janice A. “Jan” Thomas, of Nescopeck, beloved wife, mother, aunt, and Neno, passed away on June 9, 2025, at the age of 78.

She was the youngest child born to the late Alexander Sr. and Margaret (Houseknecht) Acker on July 23, 1946, in Dorrance, Pa. She attended Crestwood School District.

On July 11, 1964, at Mt. Zion UCC Church in Briggsville, Pa., she married her lifelong companion and best friend, Lester Thomas, and together they raised three daughters.

In her younger years, Jan worked at Fulton Lamp Co., Berwick Industries, and Wise Potato Chip Co. But her greatest joy for the past 10 years was selling flowers at the flower tent for her good friends, Linda Eisaman and the late Boots Klinger. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time at the Test Track in Berwick. Nearly every day, she and Lester could be found spending countless hours feeding wild animals.

Surviving, along with her husband, are her three daughters: Pamela Yaron and her husband David; Leslie Seltzer and her husband Richard; and Bobbi Weikel and her husband Philip, all of Berwick.

Of all her family roles, she was most proud to be Neno to her grandchildren: Jessica Bennett and Charles Makarovich, Berwick; Amber Ulrich and her husband, the late Jordan Ulrich, Sunbury; and Erika Workman and her husband, Cameron “Norman”, Lancaster. She was also Neno to her three great-grandsons: Nolan Smith, Hunter Ulrich, and Rowan Workman, whom she always referred to as “the perfect ones.” Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her seven siblings; brothers, Alvin, Charles, Alexander Jr., and Robert Acker; and sisters Elizabeth Smith, Marion Valentine, and Nancy Kemler.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third St., Nescopeck, with her nephew, Pastor Martin Parr, officiating. Family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
