Melissa A. Irwin, age 52, of Berwick, passed away on June 16, 2025, at Bloomsburg Geisinger Hospital with her family by her side.
Born in Danville on June 19, 1972, she was the daughter of Janet (Mayle) Maxwell, Berwick and the late Soloman “Jill” Maxwell. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Michigan. She furthered her education by obtaining her business degree at Sawyer Business School. She was a payroll administrator at several local businesses, and most recently she was employed at UGI.
Melissa was an avid motorcyclist and travelled extensively with her husband. She loved going to the beach. She volunteered with organizing many fund-raising events. She was always willing to help anytime someone asked. She was devoted to her family; they meant the world to her and more. Melissa had a presence that was immediately noticed. She demonstrated strength, courage and resilience that others emulated.
In addition to her mother, she will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 37 years, David E. Irwin, Sr.; son, David Irwin, Jr. and companion Kim Cogswell, Bloomsburg; daughter, Brittany Karchner and husband James, Berwick; grandchildren, Jacob, Autumn, Blake, Caden, Justice, Collen, Kinzey, and JP. She also leaves behind, brother, Joel “Joey” Maxwell, Catawissa; sister, Katie Kennedy and husband Jeremy, Berwick; brother-in-law, Ray Kennedy and wife Tina, Bloomsburg; mother-in-law, Maxine Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on June 19, 2025, at Heller Funeral Home LLC, Nescopeck. A celebration of life will follow at a location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, Rusty Rail Brewing Company, Mifflinburg will be hosting a benefit for Melissa A. Irwin on July 12, 2025, at 2 pm. Proceeds to benefit local families who are battling cancer.
