Elizabeth J. Houseknecht, age 89, of Berwick passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Glenbrook Nursing and Rehab where she was residing.
Born in Sugarloaf Township on September 2, 1936, she was the last living in her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late Darwin and Clara (Wenner) Houseknecht. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold M. Houseknecht, and several aunts and uncles.
Although Betsy could not communicate verbally, she found ways to connect with others. She loved to hug people which would always brighten their day. She enjoyed coloring, and her stuffed animals. She loved animals and holding and playing with babies. She was very skilled at household chores and enjoyed performing all the tasks around her home.
She is survived by an uncle, Ernie “Short” Wenner; and several cousins.
A private burial will be held in Conyngham Union Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her parents.
Her family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Glenbrook for the care and patience they provided during the years that Betsy stayed there.
