Shirley A. Ulshafer

Shirley A. Ulshafer, age 89, of Nuremberg passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2025, with her daughter by her side.

Born in Centralia on May 29, 1936, she was the youngest and last living of 10 children born to the late Frank and Mary (Kita) May, Sr. She was a graduate of Mt Carmel Catholic High School, class of 1954. Shirley continued her education at Bloomsburg State Teacher’s College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1959. She started her teaching career at Bloomsburg school district and retired from Hazleton school district.

Shirley enjoyed gardening and watching her favorite TV show, The Golden Girls.

She married the love of her life, Paul M. Ulshafer, on June 7, 1958. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before he passed away in 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eddie, Stanley, Charlie, John, Bernie, and Frank May; sisters, Helen Correll; Betty DiNocola; and Mary in infancy.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved children: David Ulshafer and wife Lisa, Seattle WA; Melissa Malloy and husband Patrick, Nuremburg; and Doug Ulshafer, West Hazleton; cherished grandchildren, Hunter, Sarah, Jacob, Paul, Gracie and Emma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held in Nuremberg Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
