Sally A. Hileman

Sally A. Hileman, age 77, of Briggsville passed away peacefully following a 42-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, on Thursday, December 4, 2025. She was at Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare, where she was a resident for the past 16 years.

Born in Berwick on April 3, 1948, she was the only child of the late Wilbur T. and Esther C. (Shiner) Kiefer. She was a graduate of Nescopeck High School, class of 1966, where she was a cheerleader and athlete who played girls basketball. In her senior year, she went along with other seniors and juniors, to march at the capital in Washington DC, to keep prayer in schools nationally.

It was in high school where she met and became friends with Herschel Hileman, Jr. Their lives went in different directions after graduation, but in the mid 80’s, they reconnected and in 1986, she married the love of her life. Together they blended their broken families into one and set an example for future generations to follow. Even though the house was crowded and chaotic at times, they often used sayings like “there are no steps in this house” and “we are just going to have to laugh a lot”. They celebrated 21 years of marriage before he passed away in 2007.

While her children were young, Sally focused her attention on her family and providing a loving home for her them. Later, she worked at various local businesses including Weis Markets, Dr. Francis’ office, Harry’s Texas Lunch and Country Folk.

In her younger years, she was a member of St James Lutheran Church, Zenith, where she played the piano for the junior choir. She was a talented piano player and singer, who enjoyed playing works written by Chopin, although she never set foot on a stage. After marrying Herschel, she became a member of Mt Zion United Church of Christ. She was also a member of Nescopeck Township Fire Company Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and was a member of a camping club. She also liked crafting and shopping.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved children, Melinda Smith, Berwick; Scott Yoder and wife Katie, Nescopeck; stepsons, Brent Hileman and Mark Hileman and wife Vicki; cherished grandchildren, Dylan C. Smith and wife Melody, Zachery A. Smith; Ashlyne N. Smith; and Kylie and Chloe Hileman; adored great grandchildren, Nathan, Delilah, Raelyn and Wesson; Kenleigh, Lane, Dixie-Mae and Haizley; MacKenzie and Kaycee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 12, 2025, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 E Third St, Nescopeck, with a Funeral Service starting at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in Mt Zion Cemetery, Briggsville.
