Lydia A. (Deet) Long, 77, of Berwick passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Berwick Hospital Center, surrounded by her family.
Born in Niagra Falls on September 10, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Violet L. (Amacher) Deet Chappell and Harold A. Deet. She graduated from Bloomsburg High School. She worked at Glick Shoes and Magee Carpet. For 44 years, she was the proprietor of Lydia Long’s Group Daycare, Berwick, which had 2 locations. She was fully devoted to her business and the children in her care. She retired last year after her health started to fail.
Lydia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she was involved with the relief society and other church organizations.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 53 years, Richard R. Long; children: Laura Long Donovan and husband James, Doylestown; Michael Long and wife Jenn, Danville; Russell Long, Berwick; daughter Amy Long Smith and husband Joel, Berwick; grandchildren: Kristen; James; Jenna; Erin; Austin; Russell; Christopher; AnDina; Seth; Cassie; and Jared; 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Doug Chappell and wife Karen, Texas; and Mark Chappell, Bloomsburg.
Family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, March 18th at Heller Funeral Home, LLC , 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck.
An additional viewing will be held on Monday, March 19th from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7368 Schoolhouse Road, Berwick followed by a funeral service. Interment will take place in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg.
