Daniel O’Kane, 81, of Berwick passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on April 17, 1940 in Elmont, NY he was the last living child of the late Hugh J and Anna (Englekey) O’Kane. He was raised in Franklin Square, NY and attended Sewanhaka High School. He served honorably in the US Army from 1957 to 1958. For over 30 years, he worked as an autobody repairman, he retired from King Kullen Supermarket, NY where he was a manager.
Dan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Berwick and a former member of the Knights of Columbus in NY. He enjoyed old cars and collecting salt and pepper shakers and coins.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Joan T (Mittenhuber) O’Kane, with whom he spent the past 58 years. He will also be missed by his daughter Patricia Cooper, son in law Jeffery Cooper, grandchildren Andrew, Amanda, Aryn, Brandon and Sara, great grandchildren Camden and Kole, with whom he resided; his grandchild Ana and great grandchildren Apollo and Aurora; and Zach Cohan and Kylie Edwards who helped care for him over the last year. He leaves behind his children Barbara J O’Kane, Eugene “Geno” O’Kane, Patricia Cooper, Daniel O’Kane; stepchildren Maryann Hall and Gary Meenahan; 22 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Hugh J III, Harold, Charles, Eugene; and Martin, who died at birth; and sisters: Eileen; Patricia and Theresa.
A memorial service and visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021. Anyone who wishes to attend should contact Patricia Cooper for more information.
