Edward C. Evancho, Sr, 85, of Slocum Township passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital.
Born in Nanticoke on October 11, 1937, he was a son of the late George and Mary M. (Lukashewski) Evancho. He attended Newport Township High School and served in the Army National Guard for several years. He worked for many years as a diesel mechanic for various trucking companies.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Dorrance, where he served as an alter boy in his younger days. Ed liked woodworking and working with heavy equipment. His greatest enjoyment was spending time and helping his children and grandchildren with their projects as well as family celebrations and having a good time. He had a fun-loving personality which made people around him laugh.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years, Susan Evancho; daughters, Mary Lou Dotzel and husband Mark, Dorrance; Michelle Koreny and husband Andrew, Dorrance; Melissa Webby and husband John, Slocum; sons, Edward Evancho and husband, Dimos Grigoropoulos, Mountain Top; Mark Evancho, Nuangola; cherished grandchildren, Christopher Dotzel; Tyler and Candice Purnell; Logan and Matthew Koreny; John Webby Jr; Michael Grigoropoulos; Jesse and Casey Evancho; and great grandchildren, Finn and Chase Dotzel, and Bella and John Webby . He is also survived by a sister, Mary Ann Vencak, Hobbie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George Jr, Joseph, John, Clarence, and Andrew Evancho.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Heller Funeral Home, LLC, 633 East Third Street, Nescopeck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in St. Mary’s Our Lady Help of Christians, Dorrance Twp. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A funeral procession from the funeral home will begin at 10:00 AM.
